The 2011 Nevada State Legislature enacted a number of measures related to education. One of these was AB233.

This bill provides that a pupil may be granted credit in lieu of course attendance if the pupil
demonstrates proficiency on an examination developed by the principal and the pupil’s teacher who
provides instruction in the course or passes an examination that the principal determines is as rigorous or
more rigorous than the examination prescribed by the State Board. To Implement this policy at Spanish Springs, students who have failed a class due to attendance will be enrolled in a class during ACA or 7th period where they will complete a minimum of 20 hours of remediation using the A+ system. They will then take an approved mastery exam. If the exam is passed the student will receive credit for the class.
